Race Courses
Parking is available at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse and the MSU Football Stadium. No parking is permitted at the Museum of the Rockies or on South 7th Ave to the south of Kagy Blvd. Kagy Blvd will be closed between South 7th and South 11th the same as during Bobcat football games. Traffic detours will be in effect in similar fashion. Expect traffic delays for parking. It is a good idea to arrive early in order to enjoy the complimentary food spread, hot drinks and socializing!
The 5K, 10K and Kids’ Run courses are the same as last year. In the event of substantial snowfall, we thank Bridger Ski Foundation for agreeing to groom the Connector Trail (just south of the Museum) in order to significantly widen the trail and to improve footing. Volunteers will be stationed at the start of the Connector Trail instructing slower participants to stay right, faster participants to pass on the left, and walkers to proceed single file in order to minimize the bottleneck effect during this short stretch of the course. We anticipate that these steps will have a positive impact on your race experience.

Kids’ Run: The Kids’ Run course is the same as last year. This course will begin in front of the Museum and exit the parking lot to the west, enter the MSU Track by crossing South 7th, run a counter-clockwise lap around the track and retrace steps to the Finish Line at the Museum. Distance is 0.87 miles (1.41K). Unlike previous years, parents are able to register children online this year by paying a nominal transaction processing fee. Or, you can avoid this fee by printing the Registration Form or by registering in person during packet pickup.

5K Course : Start/Finish at Museum of the Rockies parking lot. Run north out of parking lot to Kagy Blvd. Turn right (east) on Kagy Blvd and turn right (south) at traffic light onto South 3rd Ave. Runners must stay to the right side of the road within the orange cones! Continue south past junction of South 3rd Ave and Wagon Wheel Rd (mile 0.95). Proceed south onto Wagon Wheel Rd and pass water station at mile 1.55. Follow Wagon Wheel as it curves west to the junction with South 3rd Ave (mile 1.75). Turn right (north) on South 3rd Ave and continue to the junction with West Graf St (mile 2.35). Runners must stay to the right side of the road within the orange cones! Turn right (east) on West Graf and then make quick turn left (north) on Westridge Dr. Continue north on Westridge for 0.45 miles and then turn left onto the South 7th Connector Trail (mile 2.8). Take the Connector Trail diagonally northwest to South 7th Ave and turn right (north) on South 7th Ave. Proceed north for 0.2 miles and turn right into the west parking lot entrance of the Museum of the Rockies. Sprint to the Finish Line in the Museum’s east parking lot!
Note: 1) This course is a “Montana 5K”, not a certified 5K. Actually, it measures 3.26 miles. Like us race committee members, we know you’d prefer to run a bit longer than shorter. Afterward, have another piece of apple pie – guilt free! For obsessive runners like us who track split times, we will mark the exact 5K point of the course.
2) A water station will be located on Wagon Wheel Rd at mile 1.55. Also, there will be plenty of refreshments at the Finish Line area. Enjoy!
3) We need to emphasize the importance for all participants to stay to the right side of the road within the orange cones along the stretch of South 3rd Ave from Kagy Blvd south to Wagon Wheel Rd (1st half of the course), and along the stretch of South 3rd Ave from Wagon Wheel Rd north to West Graf St (2nd half of the course). We ask this for your safety and to be compliant with the City of Bozeman’s requirements. Be safe and have fun!
4) Participants in the Untimed 5K Fun Run will start at the same time and travel the same course as the 5K race participants. The untimed fun run is intended for less competitive runners and walkers, in response to your feedback last year, who would like to participate for the sake of supporting our local Food Bank without the necessity and cost of being timed. Yes, untimed participants reduce our timing costs and enable greater flow-through of proceeds to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank. A great idea you suggested! Untimed 5K Fun Run participants will line up at the back of the field behind the 5K race participants at 9:15am, as a courtesy to these individuals who are racing the 5K.
5) We understand the difficulty that many participants had last year with trying to run across the snowy Connector Trail. We have taken steps to improve your experience during this section of the course: In the event of snowfall, we thank Bridger Ski Foundation for agreeing to groom this trail in order to significantly widen the trail and to improve footing. Also, Volunteers will be stationed at the start of the Connector Trail instructing slower participants to stay right, faster participants to pass on the left, and walkers to proceed single file in order to minimize the bottleneck effect during this short stretch of the course. Please be courteous to your fellow participants by helping to minimize the bottleneck effect this way. We anticipate that these steps will have a positive impact on your race experience.

Begin a 1/2 mile counter clockwise loop here by turning right (south) at this junction onto Graf and follow as it curves east to Morning Sun Drive. 2) This course is a “Montana 10K”, not a certified 10K. Actually, it measures 6.63 miles. Like us race committee members, we know you’d prefer to run a bit longer than shorter. Afterward, have another piece of apple pie – guilt free! For obsessive runners like us who track split times, we will mark the exact 10K point of the course.
3) A water station will be located on Wagon Wheel Rd at mile 1.55 and mile 4.95. A second water station will be located at the junction of Peace Pipe Dr and Graf at mile 2.65 and mile 3.2. Also, there will be plenty of refreshments at the Finish Line area. Enjoy!
4) We need to emphasize the importance for all participants to stay to the right side of the road within the orange cones along the stretch of South 3rd Ave from Kagy Blvd south to Wagon Wheel Rd (1st half of the course), and along the stretch of South 3rd Ave from Wagon Wheel Rd north to West Graf St (2nd half of the course). We ask this for your safety and to be compliant with the City of Bozeman’s requirements. Be safe and have fun!
5) We understand the difficulty that 10K runners had last year with trying to pass slower competitors while trying to run across the snowy Connector Trail. We have taken steps to improve your experience during this section of the course: In the event of snowfall, we thank Bridger Ski Foundation for agreeing to groom this trail in order to significantly widen the trail and to improve footing. 10K participants will have a 25 minute head start before the 5K participants, which is an additional 10 minutes head start compared to last year in order to allow the majority of 10K competitors to reach the Connector Trail before many of the 5K competitors. Volunteers will be stationed at the start of the Connector Trail instructing slower participants to stay right, faster participants to pass on the left, and walkers to proceed single file in order to minimize the bottleneck effect during this short stretch of the course. Please be courteous to your fellow participants by helping to minimize the bottleneck effect this way. We anticipate that these steps will have a positive impact on your race experience.
