Huffing For Stuffing Post Race Summary: 11/25/10
Have you thawed out yet? The 7 degree temperature on Thanksgiving morning eked out the memorable 8 degree morning of our inaugural event during 2007. And still, you came out in large force to spend Thanksgiving morning with family, friends and neighbors to support the 4th annual Huffing For Stuffing Thanksgiving Day Run and the Gallatin Valley Food Bank - thank you! We are thrilled with the results of a near record turnout for the 4th annual Huffing For Stuffing Thanksgiving Day Run on Thanksgiving Day, 2010, at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, MT. Memories of the prior year’s beautiful sunny, mild, windless morning weather with temperatures in the mid-30’s was all we could hope for leading up to the event with conditions forecasted to be a bit chilly at minus 15 degrees and the ground sporting a healthy blanket of snow. The actual temperature at 8:00am on Thanksgiving at the Museum was a balmy 7 degrees, a Huffing For Stuffing record low temperature during our event’s four year history! Paid registration for the 5K and 10K events was 2,080 participants and an estimated 100 children brought food donations in order to participate in The Kids’ Run. 900 pounds of food donations were collected. With your help, we are proud to have donated $21,000 this year to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank during a time when their record level demand has increased approximately 30% from last year’s record level of activity! Huffing For Stuffing’s four year cumulative total is $68,100 donated to our Food Bank. Way to go Gallatin Valley!
Thank you to our 44 generous sponsors who contributed financial support and invaluable services. Thank you to the approximately 150 volunteers who arrived before sunrise wearing big smiles and many layers of clothing. Thank you to the 2,080 registered participants who came forth to support our community tradition despite conditions more suitable for the North Pole.
The Huffing For Stuffing Event Committee remains dedicated to our mission: to provide a fun, heart-healthy, family-oriented event that brings the community together to support our neighbors who rely on the Gallatin Valley Food Bank during a time of great need. We are grateful to our sponsors, volunteers, participants, City of Bozeman officials, the greater Gallatin Valley community and visitors from 35 states, Canada and England for supporting our holiday celebration during challenging economic times that have adversely impacted many people and organizations among our community. We will work hard to carry the positive momentum of Huffing For Stuffing into 2011 and beyond. Thank you!
Warm regards,
Huffing For Stuffing Event Committee
